Safetynovela

Philippine Airlines

BBDO Guerrero and Philippine Airlines (PAL) turns the standard pre-flight safety video into something unexpected: a full-fledged Filipino telenovela. The Safetynovela is a world-first, blending entertainment and safety messaging in a way that feels distinctly Pinoy.

Inspired by the country’s enduring love for telenovelas, the film’s melodramatic narrative follows the exact sequence of the guidelines set by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), while weaving in iconic Filipino soap opera tropes: family dynasties, rich versus poor, and love against all odds.

Set across iconic destinations like Boracay, Bohol, Palawan, and Albay, and filmed partly at Hacienda Santa Rosalia, the film used authentic telenovela actors and took the experience into classic entertainment venues such as streaming and the country’s largest film festival.

The result sparked buzz across social media, drawing praise from celebrities and global audiences alike—including Bretman Rock and Charlie Puth. It was praised by the President of the Philippines himself as being “so creative, so engaging, and so Filipino.”

More importantly, it worked: viewers reported paying closer attention than ever before, with many noting the instructions were both clear and memorable.

The PAL SafetyNovela achieved a 93% safety recall rate, significantly outperforming the 49% industry benchmark.
