Childhope Singing Lessons

Childhope Philippines has been transforming the lives of street children in Manila since 1986 through their KalyeEskwela program. To help street educators make their lessons more effective and enjoyable amid the distracting settings of Manila’s busy streets, BBDO Guerrero developed the initiative ‘Singing Lessons’. We collaborated with educators and musicians to create 15 educational songs inspired by the street kids’ favorite genre of rap music, infused with government-approved curriculum topics ranging from basic English, mathematics, and history to more complex life lessons such as gender sensitivity, personal hygiene, and the UN Rights of a Child.

We then added AI and housed it at singinglessons.ph, enabling Childhope educators and public and private school teachers to develop their own rap song lessons about any educational topic, free of charge.

The initiative has recorded over 10,000 teaching hours since its inception across 11 areas in Manila. Singing Lessons is now part of the 2024 Alternative Learning Curriculum, accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. This success also led to Childhope’s inclusion in the national Congressional Commission on Education, positioning it as a key influencer in shaping educational policies in the Philippines.

The campaign won a Gold in the Education and Lifelong Learning under the Champions for Humanity cluster and a Silver in the in the Builders of Society category under radio and audio at the Asia Pacific Tambuli Awards 2024.
